Westerly Schools

Westerly Public Schools
Many new residents are drawn to the state because of the quality of our schools.
Boasting high test scores and progressive thinking, South County schools share a reputation for being among
the best in the state.
Westerly administrators speak of a "zero failure policy," of refusing to "give up on any student," and of
providing students with "meaningful supports" that are "child-focused."
For example, recognizing the need for integrating services within the school setting for students with a
variety of needs, Westerly High School developed the Westerly Integrated Social Services Program (WISSP).
Located in the school building and directed by a school psychologist, WISSP coordinates school services and
community resources in a place accessible to students and their families to meet any social or emotional needs they might have.
Its vision is "to promote all students' success in school and enhance the quality of life for all families
in the community" (WISSP Pamphlet, 1997).
